How this campaign handles your information
Who this is about
This website is published by the campaign to elect Nadea Clarke as Regional & City Councillor for Ward 1, Oshawa. It is a campaign website, not a City of Oshawa or Durham Region site, and nothing here is official election information. For that, go to the City of Oshawa.
Nadea is personally responsible for her campaign, including the information it holds about you, and she answers privacy enquiries herself.
Nadea Clarke handles privacy enquiries personally. Write to info@nadeaclarke.com.
What we collect, and why
We only collect what a form actually needs. Nothing on this site requires you to create an account, and we never ask for voter credentials, PINs or government identification.
Volunteering
Name and email, which we need in order to reply. Optionally a phone number, your interests and your availability, so we can match you to something useful.
Requesting a lawn sign
Name, email and the address where the sign goes — we cannot deliver or later collect a sign without it. Any notes you choose to add.
Sharing a Ward 1 concern
Name and email so we can reply, your description of the concern, and optionally where in the ward it is.
Contacting us
Name, email, the category of your enquiry and your message.
Asking about contributing
Name and email, optionally a phone number, how you would prefer to be reached, the amount you have in mind and any note you add. This form does not take a payment — it starts a conversation.
Contributing to the campaign
Your full name, residential address, email and optionally a phone number. Ontario law requires the campaign to record these for every contribution. Our payment provider also records the IP address the contribution came from. See Contributions are different below — this is the one place where the law, not the campaign, decides what happens to your information.
Campaign updates
Your email address, and your explicit consent to receive them.
Visiting the site
Our web host keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.
Contributions are different
Most of what this notice describes is the campaign’s own choice. Contribution records are not. Ontario’s Municipal Elections Act, 1996 decides what must be recorded, what must be reported and what becomes public, and the campaign has no discretion to do otherwise.
If you give more than $100, your name becomes public
If your contributions to this campaign total more than $100, your name, address and the amount must be listed in the campaign’s financial statement filed with the City Clerk. That statement is a public document. This applies however you give — online, by cheque or in person. We would rather you knew before contributing than discovered it afterwards.
Your card details never reach this campaign
Contributions are processed by Stripe. Your card number is entered directly into a field hosted by Stripe and is sent to Stripe, not to this website. The campaign never sees it and it is never stored here. What the campaign receives back is your name, address, email, the amount, the date, the payment method and a transaction reference.
What else is recorded with a contribution
- The IP address the contribution was made from, recorded by the donation software as a fraud-prevention measure.
- Your confirmations that you are normally resident in Ontario, that the money is your own and has not been reimbursed, and that the contribution keeps you within your $1,200 limit.
- A receipt number, issued for every contribution.
The campaign also has to track contributions across every channel, so cheques, cash and online payments are counted together against your limit. If a contribution turns out not to be permitted, the campaign returns it — which means keeping enough information to identify and refund it.
Municipal campaign contributions are not income-tax deductible, so no tax receipt is issued and no information is sent to the Canada Revenue Agency.
Email consent
Consent to receive campaign updates is always a separate tick box. Volunteering, requesting a lawn sign, raising a concern, contacting us or contributing does not sign you up for email, and you can decline updates while still doing any of those things.
Every campaign email identifies the sender and contains a working unsubscribe link. If you unsubscribe we stop sending, and we do not add you back.
Who sees your information
Your details are seen by the campaign team and by volunteers acting on the campaign’s instructions — for example, a volunteer delivering the lawn sign you asked for. They are told to use it only for that purpose.
A small number of companies handle information on the campaign’s behalf, because the site runs on their services:
Bluehost
Hosts the website and its database, and keeps the server logs.
Stripe
Processes contributions and handles card details. Stripe is the only third party that receives anything from a page you visit.
The campaign mailbox
Form notifications are emailed to the campaign through an authenticated mail service, so that a notification is not lost to a spam filter.
UpdraftPlus
Takes encrypted backups of the site, including form and contribution records, and keeps the two most recent copies on a rolling basis.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with other campaigns, parties or candidates. Beyond the public financial statement described above, the campaign discloses information only if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Volunteer, lawn sign, concern and enquiry records
Kept while the campaign is running, then deleted by 30 April 2027 — about six months after election day — unless you are still in touch with us about something.
The campaign updates list
Kept until you unsubscribe. When you unsubscribe your address is removed.
Contribution records
Kept until at least 15 November 2030, as Ontario’s Municipal Elections Act, 1996 requires. These are financial records the campaign is obliged to retain and cannot delete on request.
Server logs and backups
Kept on the host’s and the backup service’s own rolling schedules, and overwritten as they rotate.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from campaign updates at any time, using the link in any email.
- Ask us what information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct anything that is wrong.
- Ask us to delete what we hold — except contribution records, which the campaign is required to keep.
- Ask a question about any of this, and get a straight answer.
Write to info@nadeaclarke.com. Your message goes to Nadea, who will reply as quickly as a volunteer campaign reasonably can.
Cookies and tracking
This site does not use Google Analytics, advertising trackers or social-media pixels. Nobody is building a profile of you here, and there is no tracking to opt out of.
Checked against the live site on 24 September 2026, these are the only cookies set:
__stripe_mid and __stripe_sid
Set by Stripe to detect payment fraud. They are set on every page, not only the contribution page, because the contribution form’s payment library loads site-wide. mid lasts about a year; sid lasts about half an hour.
wp-postpass
Set only while the site is password-protected for review, to remember that you entered the password. It disappears when the site opens to the public.
Stripe is the only outside company that receives a request from a page you visit. Its own privacy policy covers what it does with that.
Keeping it safe
- The whole site is served over an encrypted connection.
- Card details are never handled by this site — they go straight to Stripe.
- Form submissions are stored privately in the site’s own database, visible only to signed-in campaign administrators. They are not published, not searchable and not in the site’s sitemap.
- The submission log deliberately records no IP address and no browser details — the campaign has no need for them, and not collecting them is the simplest way to protect them.
- Backups are encrypted, and only the two most recent are kept.
No website can promise perfect security. If something goes wrong that affects your information, the campaign will tell the people affected rather than hope nobody notices.
Changes to this notice
If this notice changes we will update the date below. During an election campaign, the most recent version on this page is the one that applies.
